Packers: Favre to FOX? Maybe. Favre to Tahoe? Confirmed.
New Packers starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers has played in the American Century Championship the past two years. This year, he'll have company: Ex-teammate Brett Favre has committed to play, too.

Packers: Favre to FOX? Maybe. Favre to Tahoe? Confirmed.

GREEN BAY -- Since every news tidbit involving retired Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre leads to a debate on what it means about his chances of staying retired, we're glad to provide two items for your consideration.

1.) According to former Dallas Cowboys coach Barry Switzer, Favre is talking to FOX about a role on the network's NFL Sunday pregame show.

In an article on RanchReport.com, Switzer says his own role on the show could be contingent on whether Favre signs on.

Last year, FOX included Switzer on its studio show, pairing him with another former Cowboys coach, Jimmy Johnson in a "Grumpy Old Men"-style segment.

But Switzer told RanchReport.com on Friday that while the network is still negotiating with him about a role, FOX may replace him.

"Well, they're talking to Favre,'' Switzer said at Oklahoma's Honorary Degree luncheon on the school's campus. "I still think they want me involved in some way. But with Brett … they might pair him in a segment with (Terry) Bradshaw, I don't know. … It's a lot of fun for me, but there's only so much time (available) on that show. And, hey, he's Brett Favre!''

I've got my buddy Judd Zulgad of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune on the case. Judd covers the Vikings for the Strib, but he's also one of the preeminent sports broadcast writers in the country, so if there's anything to this, he'll find out.

UPDATE: Judd just emailed me back after talking with someone at FOX, who says it's not true at this point. However, Judd says, FOX, and everybody else, has expressed an interest in Favre.

2.) Favre has committed to play in a celebrity golf tournament in Lake Tahoe, Nevada called the "American Century Championship," according to the Tahoe Daily Tribune

The annual tournament is July 8 through 13 at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course.

Bryan Davis, marketing manager for Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course, told the Daily Tribune that Favre is a huge name and will help increase viewership.

"And it makes the Packer fans happy," Davis said.

More than 80 sports stars and celebrities actors have committed to play in the tournament, according to organizers, and the list on the Daily Tribune Web site is impressive.

While there are some famous names that get your attention -- Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley, Tony Romo, Dennis Miller, Ray Romano, Mario Lemieux, Dan Marino, LaDainian Tomlinson, John Elway and Jerry Rice among them -- there's also more than a few with Wisconsin ties, including Favre's replacement, Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers has played in the tournament twice before.

In addition to Rodgers, there's a number of others committed to the tournament with Wisconsin ties: ex-Milwaukee Bucks all-star guard Ray Allen, now with the Boston Celtics; quarterback Daunte Culpepper, who visited the Packers earlier this offseason but has not signed with a team; ex-Packers kicker Al Del Greco; West Allis native and former Olympic gold-medal winning speedskater Dan Jansen; Buffalo Bills coach Dick Jauron, a former Packers assistant; former Bears quarterback and Favre's 1996 backup, Jim McMahon;; Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, a Burlington native; ex-Packers wide receiver Sterling Sharpe; and former NFL quarterback Billy Joe Tolliver, who played (and partied) with Favre during Favre's hard-charging days in Atlanta.

There's a couple other "celebs" on the list that cause a double-take, including John O'Hurley, who played J. Peterman on Seinfeld; trash-TV talk-show host Maury Povich; former Vice President Dan Quayle; and soap-opera actor Jack Wagner, who's apparently quite the golfer.

The 54-hole tournament has been played at Edgewood Tahoe's 6,707-yard lakeside course since 1990. Retired NFL quarterback Chris Chandler, another of Favre's former teammates in Atlanta, won the tournament last year. His stiffest competition should be from six-time winner Rick Rhoden, four-time winner Dan Quinn and past champions Wagner, Tolliver, Lemieux, Del Greco and Mark Rypien.

Tickets are available daily at the gate. Prices are $15 for July 8-9 and $25 per day July 10-13. A weeklong pass costs $60 for all six days of the event. Advance ticket purchases prior to June 15 receive a $5 discount. Kids 10 and younger are free with a paid adult.

Tickets are available in advance at www.bluelaketahoe.com. For those folks not willing to make the trip west, the tournament is televised by NBC Sports.
