GREEN BAY -- Unsigned starting running back Ryan Grant, an exclusive-rights free agent who has yet to sign his $370,000 tender because he wants a long-term deal, told Sporting News Radio on Monday that he expects to sign a multi-year deal before training camp.
Sporting News Radio's public-relations department sent out a clip from Grant's interview on "The Monty Show" to reporters Tuesday.
``I expect (a deal) to be absolutely done within the next few weeks," said Grant, who ran for 956 yards in seven regular-season starts and had a 201-yard performance in the playoffs against Seattle.
Although he has participated in offseason meetings, the strength and conditioning program and attended OTA and minicamp practices, Grant has not taken part in any of the on-field work. He has no choice other than to play for the Packers this season, but his agent has said that he won't play for the tender, which would allow him to become a restricted free agent in 2009.
