Politics blog: Top lawmakers disavow interest in governor's job
By JASON STEIN

The Legislature's top party leaders are all downplaying the possibility they could run for governor.

Senate Minority Scott Fitzgerald, R-Juneau, and a spokeswoman for Senate Majority Leader Russ Decker, D-Weston, said the two senators are focused on the upcoming campaign battle for legislative control of that body. Both men had been rumored to be thinking over a gubernatorial run now that Gov. Jim Doyle has said he won't seek a third term.

Assembly Speaker Mike Sheridan, D-Janesville, and a spokesman for Assembly Minority Leader Jeff Fitzgerald, R-Horicon, also said those two lawmakers were focused on their current jobs.
