Politics blog: Sheridan kicks around idea of running for governor
Count Assembly Speaker Mike Sheridan of Janesville among the Democrats mulling the possibility of a run for governor.
“I love my job, but it would be irresponsible to not at least consider the possibility," Sheridan said. "In all likelihood I’ll be staying where I’m at, but I’ll be taking a look at it.”
Sheridan said if he ran his main focus would be on creating jobs for areas hard-hit by the recession such as his hometown.
Since Democratic Gov. Jim Doyle announced Monday he wouldn’t run for re-election, fellow party members from around the state have admitted to taking a look at the job.
They include U.S. Rep. Ron Kind, D-La Crosse, Sen. Jon Erpenbach, D-Waunakee, and Wisconsin Counties Association executive director Mark O'Connell. Lt. Gov. Barbara Lawton has already committed to a run.
