Politics blog: New legal counsel for guv, and this one has a license
Gov. Jim Doyle has named a veteran attorney as his legal counsel after revelations that his previous counsel was not licensed prompted her to resign.
Doyle's new counsel, Susan Crawford, has been licensed in the state since 1997, served as an assistant attorney general at the state Department of Justice from 1997 to 2003, and since has held a number of high-level state government jobs.
Most recently, Crawford was the deputy director of Doyle's Office of Recovery and Reinvestment helping oversee state spending of federal stimulus money.
Chandra Miller Fienen, the daughter of Sen. Mark Miller, D-Monona, resigned from Doyle's office this month after it became clear she was not licensed to practice law. Miller Fienen made about $100,000 a year. Crawford's salary will remain $106,887, Doyle spokeswoman Carol Andrews said.
