Sensenbrenner seeking treatment for prostate cancer, will seek re-election
Thirty-year congressman Jim Sensenbrenner declared he had prostate cancer - and that he was running for re-election - on the same day Monday.
The 66-year-old Menomonee Falls Republican said the early-stage cancer was caught early, has not spread beyond his prostate and is considered very treatable. He said he's seeking treatment, including radiation therapy, and expects only "minimal" disruptions of his work.
“I intend on maintaining my active schedule, both in Washington, (D.C.,) and in the (fifth congressional) district, and will still hold the numerous town hall meetings that have been scheduled," Sensenbrenner said in a statement.
In a separate campaign statement also released Monday, he said he was seeking re-election in 2010 to "continue the battle to improve our economy, restore jobs and reduce government spending."
A strongly conservative member of the House of Representatives, Sensenbrenner has served since 1979. He and his wife Cheryl have two adult sons, Frank and Bob.
