Madison East's Matt Matteson and his star junior Ruby Martin were named Division 1 girls coach and swimmer of the year, respectively, Sunday during the Wisconsin Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association all-state banquet Sunday at Hartland.

Martin won the 50-yard freestyle, finished second in the 100 free and swam on the winning 200 and 400 free relays in helping the Purgolders win the WIAA Division 1 state title. East edged Madison Memorial by three points for the team title with its 400 relay victory.

Madison West's Kylie Rosenstock was named Division 1 girls diver of the year and Middleton's Krystina Miller Division 1 girls diving coach of the year. DeForest's Sue Winckler earned the Division 2 girls coach-of-the-year honor while Madison Edgewood's Morgan Hearn was named Division 2 girls diver of the year.

Meanwhile, McFarland coach Nick Weiss and senior Ian Bakk were named Division 2 boys coach and swimmer of the year, respectively. Bakk won 200 individual medley and the 100 backstroke and swam on the victorious 200 medley relay as the Spartans won the Division 2 state title in February.

Sauk Prairie/Wisconsin Heights coach Todd Wuerger, whose team finished sixth at the Division 1 state meet, was named Division 1 boys coach of the year. University of Wisconsin recruit Wes Lagerhausen of Lake Geneva Badger was named Division 1 swimmer of the year.
