One of the two byes to which I referred for Schofield D.C. Everest in today's Prep Huddle column has been filled, online reader Alex Wagner e-mailed to tell me.

The Evergreens will play Illionis power Montini High School of Lombard, Ill., in a 3 p.m. non-conference game on Saturday, Sept. 12. And that game will be played right in our backyard at Breitenbach Stadium in Middleton.

The game is symobolic of the scheduling issues that perennial powerhouses have had in recent years trying to fill non-conference dates on the season.

Montini went 11-1 last season, losing in the Illinois High School Association state quarterfinals to St. Francis. Everest went 9-1 last season, losing in the second round of the WIAA Division 1 playoffs to Wisconsin Valley Conference rival Stevens Point.

Everest has yet to fill a Week 9 bye on its schedule and will most likely use the break to prepare for the WIAA playoffs.
