Prep Talk: Gearing up for Super Tuesday in WIAA sports

With the Memorial Day weekend falling before WIAA tournament activity in most spring sports -- most notably track and field -- it will be a very busy Tuesday in the prep sports world.

Regional competition is scheduled in track and field and boys golf as well as regional semifinal games in softball. In addition, boys tennis competition gets under way with subsectional competition.

It will not be uncommon for a softball regional game to be taking place at a school where a subsectional tennis meet is wrapping up and a track and field regional is getting set to begin.

And you're probably wondering if you can catch a little bit of each sport without putting too many miles on your minivan. Here's our suggestion:

  •  Start with Division 1 Madison Memorial subsectional tennis Tuesday morning at Nielsen Tennis Stadium.
  •  From there, you'll want to wrap around Lake Mendota and head out to the Meadows of Six-Mile Creek in Waunakee for a little Division 1 Waunakee regional golf.
  •  Later in the afternoon, you can circle over to Fire Fighter's Park out Airport Road in Middleton for some Division 1 regional softball (Middleton hosts Madison East).
  •  To wrap up the night, you might consider the Division 1 Middleton regional boys and girls track and field at Middleton High School ... before capping the night with a double-scoop of the flavor-of-the-day (Brownie Thunder) at the nearby Culver's.

We have been given the tools to add tennis and track and field to our online database of stats in time for the WIAA postseason. Here is a schedule of events this Tuesday.
