Ryan Evans, who earlier this month made an oral commitment to play for the University of Wisconsin men's basketball team beginning next season, made that commitment binding Wednesday when he signed a National Letter of Intent. That act allowed Badgers coach Bo Ryan to comment publicly about Evans -- a 6-foot-6, 185-pound forward from Chandler, Ariz. -- for the first time."We are very excited to have Ryan joining our basketball program," Ryan said in a news release. "We believe he is just scratching the surface in terms of his potential in the future. His length and athleticism combined with his court savvy and dynamic personality make him a great fit at the University of Wisconsin.Evans, who averaged 19.1 points and 7.7 rebounds per game as a senior, is the fifth member of UW's 2008 recruiting class, joining guards Jordan Taylor and Robert Wilson and centers Jared Berggren and Ian Markolf."He was able to visit campus in late February and watch us clinch the Big Ten title versus Penn State," Ryan said of Evans. UW senior Brian Butch knows that much of the country -- not to mention many of the non-Bucky types at Ford Field on Friday night -- will be rooting for Davidson, a No. 10 seed that has garnered much of the Cinderella hype in the Sweet 16, even though the Wildcats are hardly a shocking succes story.Nevertheless, Butch was asked if he'll feel bad about dispatching one of the tournament's feel-good stories with a victory."For us, it is a basketball game. There has to be a winner and a loser. So for us, we're trying to win the game just as much as they are," Butch said. "They've played great so far. They've done a great job of playing team basketball. They do a lot of great things. For us, we have to concentrate on what we've been doing all year long. We really have to concentrate on sticking to our rules and really concentrating on what needs to be done to win the basketball... >>MORE

Dell Curry, the father of Davidson sharpshooting sophomore Stephen Curry, said wife Sonya and the couple's three kids, including Stephen, didn't join him in Milwaukee during the lockout-shortened 1999-2000 NBA season.Instead, Dell Curry, who'd spent the previous 10 seasons in Charlotte playing for the Hornets, lived in Milwaukee by himself and had the family visit from time to time.On one of those visits, then-Bucks coach George Karl allowed a 10-year-old Stephen to play in a pseudo-scrimmage at a shootaround one morning at the Bradley Center."It was the lockout year, so the season started late," Dell Curry said. "I remember Stephen coming to Milwaukee and George letting him participate in our shootarounds and that left a very good mark on Stephen. He still remembers that -- a 10-year-old kid getting to compete in an NBA shootaround. And, his team won."As for his time with the Bucks, Dell Curry, who signed with Toronto the next year, said, "It was a short season. I played only 50 games there, but I enjoyed my time there. Had some great teammates who are... >>MORE
