UW men's basketball: Badger recruits off to Minnesota state finals
Since some of you missed our post yesterday on 2009 University of Wisconsin recruit Mike Bruesewitz of Henry Sibley, we will recap the Friday efforts of the 6-foot-7, 215-pounder with fellow future Badger Jordan Taylor of Benilde-St. Margaret's in today's update from the Minnesota State High School League state championships at the Target Center in Minneapolis.
And why not? Both players have helped their teams reach the MSHSL state finals in different divisions.
Brusewitz had a monster game this afternoon in a .68-52 victory over Robbinsdale Cooper in a Class AAAA semifinal game. He had 18 points and 16 rebounds in leading the Warriors (26-5) into Saturday's 8 p.m. state championship game against Minnetonka, the team that WIAA Division 1 state runner-up Madison Memorial knocked off in the Border Battle at Verona in January.
Taylor, a senior point guard who had 43 points in Benilde's state quarterfinal game, had 19 points, seven assists and four steals in a 100-70 win over Minneapolis Patrick Henry in a Class AAA semifinal. Benilde (28-3), which beat Madison Memorial in the Timberwolves Shootout in January, will play Saint Thomas Academy or Wilmar at 6 p.m. Saturday for the state title.
