Thursday in Detroit -- Around Ford Field: Stephen Curry's time in Milwaukee limited
Dell Curry, the father of Davidson sharpshooting sophomore Stephen Curry, said wife Sonya and the couple's three kids, including Stephen, didn't join him in Milwaukee during the lockout-shortened 1999-2000 NBA season.
Instead, Dell Curry, who'd spent the previous 10 seasons in Charlotte playing for the Hornets, lived in Milwaukee by himself and had the family visit from time to time.
On one of those visits, then-Bucks coach George Karl allowed a 10-year-old Stephen to play in a pseudo-scrimmage at a shootaround one morning at the Bradley Center.
"It was the lockout year, so the season started late," Dell Curry said. "I remember Stephen coming to Milwaukee and George letting him participate in our shootarounds and that left a very good mark on Stephen. He still remembers that -- a 10-year-old kid getting to compete in an NBA shootaround. And, his team won."
As for his time with the Bucks, Dell Curry, who signed with Toronto the next year, said, "It was a short season. I played only 50 games there, but I enjoyed my time there. Had some great teammates who are still friends. I really liked playing for George Karl."
