- Bennett's first two seasons at Indiana were clearly her best. She talked Thursday about the process of wearing down she went through because the school went through four athletic directors and three school presidents during her tenure.

Keep in mind, also, that she was in a car accident during her second season with the Hoosiers and broke her the second vertebrae in her neck. She came back to lead Indiana to the Big Ten Conference tournament title, and as the fifth seed, the Hoosiers are the lowest seeded team to take the conference's automatic NCAA berth.

- After leaving Indiana, Bennett worked as an orthopedic sales representative. She said she wanted to get as far away from basketball as she could.

- Here's Bennett on how her father, the legendary coach Dick Bennett, dealt with her being away from coaching:

"My parents know their kids, and they know me. And I think he was really patient. I think he knew that I eventually would come back. But I've always been kind of stubborn and had done things my own way. And I think they just let me work through things. But the minute, the minute I mentioned it, there definitely was an intensity about getting me back."

- As for the task ahead of her, which clearly is turning UW into a good defensive team, Bennett said she's watched a lot of tape since she became interested in the job.

Her conclusion? "I think sometimes their offense hurt their defense."

By that, Bennett means turnovers and poor shot selection.

- Here's Badgers head coach Lisa Stone's take on that 1980 state tournament game, where Bennett guarded her:

"I scored a lot, but we didn't win."

- Just to clarify, Stone is still following through on her offseason plans of visiting with various coaches to improve the team's defense, but she's also going to look at broader things like how they conduct practices.

Bennett was one of the people she mentioned as someone she wanted to speak with, so that's one less phone call.

- UW definitely already knows who they're hiring to fill the other vacant assistant job, but the paperwork wasn't done Thursday.

That announcement could come Friday.
