Bill Cooney
Bill Cooney has covered golf for the Wisconsin State Journal since 2004, including several U.S. Bank Championships, a pair of PGA Championships and a U.S. Senior Open as well as many state and local events. The Appleton native grew up playing Reid Municipal Golf Course -- and still considers its 17th and 18th as some of the state's top finishing holes -- and, when he has the day off, counts on the middle tees, at least one mulligan and an occasional gimme-putt to break 80 at a handful of area golf courses.

The Shag Bag: A chance to play with Natalie Gulbis

So maybe you're not flashing the swag to pull off a day date with LPGA star Natalie Gulbis (see pictures on the right).

Well, maybe you have the writing skills to pull it off.

The "Who's Behind Your Success" essay contest, open to anyone over age 18, invites participants to submit essays of 200 words or less explaining the most influential and/or inspirational person behind the success in their life.

The contest winner gets a day with Gulbis in Las Vegas, including a morning workout and nine holes of golf, followed by a dinner with Ms. Gulbis.

The last day to submit entries is August 4 at www.rsmmcgladrey.com/nataliecontest

So hurry up. And if anyone from the Madison area wins, you'll also get an article in the State Journal -- not that it would come close to topping your adventures with Gulbis.

Good luck.
