Not exactly pennies from Heaven: quarter-sized hail hits area
Hail the size of quarters hit parts of the state Wednesday morning, and a severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect until 4 p.m. for Dane County and surrounding areas, according to the National Weather Service.
Some storms will be severe with large hail and damaging winds, the Weather Service said.
Half inch-sized hail was reported three miles south southwest of Madison at around 10:40 a.m. and 1-inch-sized hail was reported near Johnson Creek at 11:19 a.m. An area of storms already moved through Madison but more could redevelop this afternoon.
The storms could continue into early evening.
Thursday is expected to be mostly sunny, as well as Friday, Independence Day.
