A family memorial service for Dr. Darren Bean and Med Flight pilot Steve Lipperer, two of the three Med Flight crew members killed in a crash Saturday near La Crosse, has been set for 7 p.m. Thursday at Monona Terrace.
In addition, details are pending for memorials that UW Hospital and Madison Area Technical College are planning for all three crew members. Also killed in the hillside crash was veteran flight nurse Mark Coyne, 53.
An obituary for Lipperer, 39, said his career was marked by adventure and travel. He'd been married less than a year to Dr. Desiree La Charite, a UW Hospital emergency physician.
Lipperer loved aerobatic flying and spent time as a fire-fighting pilot, the obituary said.
A 1987 graduate of Jefferson High School, Lipperer piloted helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft for 20 years. "He loved anything with speed and an engine, particularly motorcycles and Corvettes," the obituary said. "He was a master chef and a lover of blues music."
An obituary for Bean, 37, said his career passion was making a difference in people's lives, but he always put his family first. He "stated that it was his family that refueled him for what he had to do," the obituary said.
He met "the love of his life," his wife, Dr. Stacey Bean, at the University of Vermont, where he attended medical school. They married in 1999 and have two children. "Darren was an incredible father, finding great joy in teaching Parker and Caitlyn how to embrace life," the obituary said.
Bean also enjoyed fishing, pheasant hunting and mountain biking, his obituary said.
