Sheriff's Office investigates home invasion
State Journal staff
Dane County Sheriff's officials are looking for a lone gunman who entered an apartment in the town of Cottage Grove early this morning and pistol-whipped two residents.

A 63-year-old man and a 55-year-old woman were taken to a local hospital and treated for significant but non-life threatening head injuries, sheriff's officials said.

The suspect is described as a white male, 5-feet-6-inches to 6-feet tall, clean shaven, with a stocky build. He was dressed in black clothing and may have been wearing a hooded sweatshirt.

Sheriff's deputies responded to the residence on Highway AB at 1:39 a.m. The Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident at the request of the Cottage Grove Police Department. Sheriff's Office detectives and crime scene personnel have been called in to assist in the investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Dane County Sheriff's Office Tipster Hotline at 284-6900. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward.
