A Hubertus teenager was killed Thursday night when the car he was driving west on Highway S in Dodge County went into a spin at high speed, slid more than 140 feet into a ditch, went airborne twice and struck a power pole, according to Dodge County Sheriff's Department reports.
The dead driver was identified as Andrew W. Schiller, 18. A passenger, Sarah J. Katona, 14, of Hartford, was taken to a Hartford hospital for treatment of injuries. The crash was reported at about 8:45 p.m. on Highway S west of Highway U a few miles north of Hartford.
The injured Katona was able to free herself from the car, which struck the pole at the height of six feet and landed upside down, and seek help from a nearby farm, according to deputies' reports. Schiller, who was trapped in the car, was pronounced dead at the scene by Dodge County Medical Examiner PJ Schoebel.
