A rural Sauk County woman was fatally injured Thursday afternoon when she walked into the side of a semi-trailer truck on Highway 12 in front of the Bluffview neighborhood, across from the former Badger Ammunition Plant, according to the Sauk County Sheriff's Office.

The woman, Gloria Trautz, 81, of North Freedom, walked on to the highway and into the side of the truck, driven by Andrew Gilbertson, 24, of Baraboo, witnesses told sheriff's deputies. Trautz, with head, leg and arm injuries, was taken to the UW Hospital, where she died, according to Lt. Jeff Tobin.

The accident happened at about 3:15 p.m. Thursday, and remains under investigation.
