Girl, 16, killed in highway crashBEAVER DAM -- A 16-year-old girl from Beaver Dam was killed in a one-car crash about 3 p.m. Monday on Shaw Hill Road near Parker Road.
The Dodge County Sheriff's Department said Kristin A. Baade was a passenger in the car driven by Dominick Kaiser, 16, also from Beaver Dam. Baade was partially ejected from the car, Sheriff's Sgt. Dennis Walston said, and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Kaiser was taken to Beaver Dam Hospital and then was flown by Flight for Life helicopter to UW Hospital.
Walston said Kaiser was driving south on Shaw Road when the car began spinning out of control. The car went airborne and hit a power pole, causing the car to land on its roof. The Sheriff's Department said speed and failure to wear seat belts are believed to be factors in the crash.
Teen pleads guilty of killing sister
FARGO, N.D. -- On the day his trial was to start, a Sun Prairie teenager accused of killing his sister last summer has pleaded guilty to charges of murder and a deviate sexual act.
Sixteen-year-old Sergei Carlson is to be sentenced Oct. 23.
Carlson, of Sun Prairie, had been scheduled for trial Monday in Bismarck in the killing of his 16-year-old sister, Whitney, in her Fargo home. Prosecutors announced Sunday afternoon that he would enter a plea instead.
Authorities said Sergei Carlson told police he strangled his sister in her bedroom with his hands on July 13, 2007, put pillows over her face to muffle her sounds, then had sexual contact with her.
The judge had twice rejected a plea agreement calling for a 30-year prison sentence.
Sergei Carlson originally was charged as a juvenile. Because of his age and the severity of the charges, the case was moved to adult court, where the maximum sentence is life in prison.
Judge John Irby ordered a presentence review.
