Attorneys with the Wisconsin Department of Justice are acting as special prosecutors in a case alleging that a former high school teacher had sex with one of his students in Lafayette County.
Todd M. Strang, 36, of Shullsburg, was charged Monday with two counts of having sexual intercourse with a high school student over the age of 16 while he was employed at that same high school.
The allegations are felony charges that carry a maximum penalty of fines of $10,000 and 10 years of imprisonment per count, state officials said.
The criminal complaint against Strang alleges that he had sex at his home with the student in 2000 and 2001, while the student was a junior and senior at the high school.
Strang was released Monday on a $10,000 signature bond Monday pending a scheduling conference set for Dec. 16 in Lafayette County.
His bond conditions include that he have no unsupervised contact with children and that he not participate in volunteer activities that put him in direct contact with children under 18.
