Honors: Janet Moore of McFarland received a School Forest Award from the LEAF (Learning, Experience and Activities in Forestry) Program at the Wisconsin Association for Environmental Education conference held Oct. 31.
Moore has been a leader and parent volunteer for the McFarland School Forest since 2006. She helped develop a forest management plan, a forest education plan, organized professional development opportunities for teachers as well as mobilizing volunteers to clear invasive species and conduct trail and other repairs at the forest to restore the property and enable environmental education to take place in a natural setting.

Students from Monticello and Platteville are among the winners of the Eagle Nature Foundation's school essay and art contests, held in conjunction with the Fall Eagle Fest in Galena, Ill.
Winner of the junior high essay contest was Thorin Croushore of Monticello Public School, who received a trophy and cash award, plus a plaque and cash award for the school. Hillary Line and Tessa Collins of Platteville Middle School won second and fourth places, respectively.
In the art contest, Caitlyn McMahoney and Meghan Pluemer of Platteville Middle School won second and third (tie) places, respectively. And Matthew Andrews of Monticello Public School tied for fourth place.
