Madison's Jim Hawley shows off the tiger trout he caught April 4 in Crawford County. Hawley was using a 4-weight sage rod and 4x leader. He caught the fish on a size 10 black beadheaded bugger with green crystal flash. On the day, Hawley caught brown, brook and tiger trout.

The following is a calendar for outdoors recreational events in and around southern Wisconsin as of Aug. 29, 2008. Please note that readers are advised to contact clubs and organizations, especially in the event of inclement weather, to check the status of each listing. 

Aug. 29 to Sept. 1: Lake Winnetka/Sugar River Improvement Association's annual carp fishing contest in Albany. Prizes awarded for most carp, regardless of size. $100 for largest carp. Fish must be caught from the Sugar River in Albany or on the millpond (Lake Winnetka) upstream of the Albany Dam.
