Prep track: Memorial's Jones runs away at All-City meet

It might be hard to believe, but Madison Memorial senior Tiffany Jones was not all that tired after her four-event workout Tuesday night at the Madison All-City outdoor track meet at Mansfield Stadium.

"Right now, currently, I would probably say a five (on scale of one to ten)," Jones said of her fatigue level. "It was a good workout. Just getting a lot of sleep makes it all better."

ones — the individual star of the night — swept the sprint events and added a long jump title. She won the 100 meters in 12.6 seconds, the 200 meters (:25.8), the 400 (:59.5) and the long jump with a leap of 18 feet, 2 inches.

"It's my last time running, so I'm feeling kind of sad," Jones said. "But I made sure, last year, go out with a bang, make sure you do the best you can. That was my goal, so I'm glad I achieved it."

Madison La Follette, behind a strong overall showing, won the girls team title with 142 points. La Follette won the 400 and 800 sprint relays.

Lancers sophomore Sarah Baltisberger won the 1,600 in 5 minutes, 27.5 seconds, and added a second-place finish in the 800, while juniors Tamara and Tiffany Wade finished one-two in the shot put.

Memorial finished second with 100 points.

Madison La Follette, behind a sweep of the distance events, also won the boys team title.

Lancers senior Andy Buchanan won the 800 and 1,600, while La Follette swept the 3,200.

Seniors John Prusynski, Garrett Eklof and Brently Bohn finished in order.

Prusynski (9:27.9) broke the 11-year-old meet record by more than 4 seconds.

"I just wanted to run fast, because it was an opportunity," said Prusynski, who finished 1 second off his personal best set last week at the Hartland Arrowhead Invite.

That wasn't the only record to fall. Madison Memorial erased one of the meet's longest-standing records — at 62 years, to be exact — by posting a 1:30.9 in the 800 relay.

Spartan senior Quentin Badger anchored the effort which erased Madison West's 1946 mark from the books.

"It was a huge team effort because last Tuesday we ran a 1:34.9," said Badger, who also anchored the Spartans' first-place 400 relay and won the 200. "So we all practiced day after day, getting our handoffs and our steps down. Then last Friday, at the Spartan invite, we cut it down by three seconds. So it was a huge team effort today, for us to get that city record."
