Brewers: Doubleheader on tap after rainout
State Journal wire services
BOSTON — Friday night's game between the Milwaukee Brewers and Boston Red Sox was rained out and rescheduled as part of a day-night doubleheader Saturday.

The first game will start at 2:55 p.m. as scheduled and be televised by Fox Sports, with Game 2 set to start at 7:35 p.m. The second game will not be available on local television.

Boston's Daisuke Matsuzaka (6-0) and Milwaukee's Jeff Suppan (2-3), who were scheduled to start Friday night, will pitch in the opener. The Red Sox will start Tim Wakefield (3-2) in the nightcap, while Milwaukee counters with Dave Bush (1-4).

The postponement, which came after a delay of 1 hour, 25 minutes, was the first of the year for both teams.
There was discussion about playing the game in August on a mutual off-date — both teams are idle Aug. 7, 21 and 25.

"I would rather do this than come back here in August," Brewers manager Ned Yost told the team's Web site.

Yost said he would use the same lineup this afternoon as he had posted for Friday night. That had Joe Dillon serving as the designated hitter and third baseman Bill Hall, usually a No. 5 or 6 hitter this season, in the No. 8 spot.

The Brewers and Red Sox last faced each other in Boston on Sept. 7, 1997, when Milwaukee was still in the American League, with Boston winning 11-2.

The teams have met once in interleague play, the Red Sox taking two of three games in June 2003 at Miller Park in Milwaukee.

Stetter down, Jackson up

The Brewers recalled left-hander Zach Jackson from Class AAA Nashville and sent reliever Mitch Stetter to Nashville.

Jackson spent all of 2007 in Class AAA, but made seven starts and one relief appearance for the Brewers in 2006 and went 2-2 with a 5.40 ERA.

The southpaw was acquired in December 2005 to complete the trade that sent Lyle Overbay to Toronto and also included Bush.

Stetter, who had been serving the second left-hander out of the bullpen, was 1-1 with a 3.09 ERA in 13 appearances. However, he struggled with his command in his last two appearances, walking seven in one inning and allowing runs in each game.
