The big question
How much do Tauscher and Clifton have left?
The veteran tackles have been cornerstones at their positions since earning starting jobs as rookies in 2000. They're entering their ninth year in the league, and neither is getting any younger. Plus, given what seems like annual uncertainty on the interior of the line, the ends have been the one area where the coaches didn't have to worry. Clifton's health requires constant monitoring and extra attention, which so far has worked.
Player to watch
Wells.
Wells was more than solid in his first year as a full-time starting center, replacing the popular Mike Flanagan in 2006. But his play slipped slightly last season, in part due to a fractured orbital socket that cost him two games, and despite the security of a long-term contract extension, the coaches insist he'll have to compete to keep his starting job. Look for this tough-minded player to more than rise to the challenge.
Key competition
Left guard.
Barbre was green as grass as a rookie fourth-round pick last year, but he's proof-positive of the value of the offseason program. He essentially lived at Lambeau Field —he was even there during the rookie orientation camp — and has a legitimate shot of unseating Colledge, whose inconsistent play has prevented him from reaching his potential as a 2006 second-round pick. The battle is on at camp.
