State Journal staff

The University of Wisconsin men's basketball team enters the postseason as the sixth-ranked team in the country, according to the ESPN-USA Today coaches' poll released Monday.

Meanwhile, the Badgers (26-4) are No. 8 in the new Associated Press media poll.

UW moved up two spots in each poll after claiming the Big Ten title outright with last week's wins over Penn State and Northwestern.

The top five teams in the coaches' poll: North Carolina (29-2), UCLA (28-3), Memphis (30-1), Tennessee (28-3) and Kansas (28-3). Purdue (24-7) is No. 16, Michigan State (24-7) No. 19 and Indiana (25-6) No. 20. Marquette (22-8) is No. 24.

The top seven teams in the media poll: North Carolina, Memphis, UCLA, Tennessee, Kansas, Texas (26-5) and Duke (26-4). Purdue is No. 17, Michigan State No. 19 and Indiana No. 22. Marquette is No. 25.

As Big Ten champions, the Badgers are the top-seeded team in this week's Big Ten tournament in Indianapolis. UW will play the winner of Thursday's Iowa-Michigan game at 11 a.m. Friday on ESPN.
