UW women's basketball: Hoosiers crush Badgers

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Another Big Ten Conference road game, and another loss for the University of Wisconsin women's basketball team.

The Badgers fell to 0-5 away from the Kohl Center in conference play Thursday night, losing 86-62 to Indiana.

With the loss, UW fell to 2-25 all-time at Assembly Hall.

The Badgers are just 7-30 on the road in Big Ten play under fifth-year coach Lisa Stone.

And after two efficient performances at home last week, UW (10-10, 3-7 Big Ten) was undone by turnovers and shoddy defense.

The Badgers allowed the Hoosiers (13-8, 6-3) to shoot 50.8 percent for the game, and turned the ball over 23 times.

Indiana converted those miscues into 28 points.

The Hoosiers jumped out to a 42-25 halftime lead and never looked back, extending the advantage to as large as 26 points in the second half.

"Our defense was very subpar," Stone said in her postgame radio interview.

Senior guard Jolene Anderson scored 23 points to lead the Badgers, but didn't score in the first half. No other UW player reached double figures.

Junior forward Whitney Thomas led a balanced Indiana attack with 16 points, while former Madison Edgewood athlete Haylie Linn, a freshman guard, had 15 and made four of her eight 3-point tries. Former Marshfield athlete Jamie Braun added 12 for the Hoosiers.

UW has another tough road test staring it in the face: The Badgers play Sunday at Penn State, and they are 0-14 all-time in State College, Pa.

"It's just tough," Stone said.
