Goalie Jessie Vetter and the University of Wisconsin women's hockey team nearly were impenetrable Friday afternoon.
The senior made 22 saves — she lost the shutout on a power-play goal with 26 seconds left — as the fifth-ranked Badgers extended their winning streak to seven games with a 4-1 decision over ninth-ranked St. Cloud State in front of 1,494 at the Kohl Center.
Kyla Sanders, Mallory Deluce, Jinelle Zaugg and Kelly Nash got goals for the Badgers, who improved to 13-4-2 in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association and 17-6-2 overall.
The Huskies, who saw their eight-game unbeaten streak snapped, fell to 10-6-3, 15-6-4.
UW took control just 8 seconds into the game.
St. Cloud State won the faceoff, but Jasmine Giles won the puck back before feeding it to Sanders. The goal was the fastest to start a game, as well as the fastest to start a period, in program history.
Deluce made it 2-0 the second. Zaugg took the puck around the St. Cloud goal and then passed it to Emily Morris, who fired a shot.
Deluce, who was camped out in front of the net, tipped it in.
"Even though it was a three-goal game, it was a fairly even," Huskies coach Jeff Giesen said. "(Saturday), we just need to find a way to create more offense and more shots to get that split."
