For the first time in program history, the University of Wisconsin men's tennis team has earned back-to-back NCAA tournament berths.
The 33rd-ranked Badgers (17-9) received an at-large bid in the 64-team tournament Tuesday and will face No. 32 Washington (14-9) in a first-round match at 11 a.m. CDT Saturday at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.
UW slipped past the Huskies 4-3 in a first-round match last year, the program's first NCAA tournament victory after losses in their other appearances in 1978 and '98.
The winner will play third-seeded and third-ranked UCLA (21-1) or Eastern Washington (18-6) in a regional final at 3 p.m. CDT Sunday.
"We feel like we've got a lot of momentum going into the tournament, winning 12 of our last 16 matches," said Badgers coach Greg Van Emburgh, whose team lost to Notre Dame 4-0 in a regional final last year.
