Home Talent League: Rio edges Cottage Grove

Dick Friend walked with the bases loaded to tie the game, and Chris Mlsna drove in the go-ahead run with a fielder's choice in the fifth inning as host Rio rallied to notch a 5-4 win over Cottage Grove Sunday afternoon in a Home Talent League Eastern Section opener.

Cottage Grove scored three of its runs in the first inning thanks to two bases loaded walks and a passed ball.

Marshall 4, Sun Prairie 3: Brandon Witkowski had a bases-clearing single in the bottom of the sixth, and Matt Saldana pitched six solid innings as host Marshall held off Sun Prairie.

Poynette 8, DeForest 7: Jared Ryan's three-run double highlighted an eight-run eighth, as host Poynette rallied from a 6-0 deficit to beat DeForest.

DeForest pitchers walked three Poynette hitters with the bases loaded, the last pulling Poynette within 6-5. That's when Ryan delivered the big blow in the inning.

McFarland 13, Columbus 0: Cale Schmelzer drove in four runs, and Cory Schuchardt tossed six shutout innings as McFarland clobbered host Columbus.

Monona at Waterloo, ppd.: The Monona at Waterloo game was postponed due to wet grounds. No makeup date was announced.
