Home Talent League: Argyle duo combine on no-hitter

Ben Wallace and Jarret Baumann made sure Argyle's Home Talent League season opener was a memorable one.

Wallace and Baumann combined on a no-hitter, teaming up to strike out 15 batters and lead host Argyle past Blanchardville 3-0 in a Western Section game Sunday afternoon.

Wallace pitched the first five innings, walking three and striking out eight.

Baumann then relieved Wallace in the sixth and followed with four hitless innings to finish off the no-hitter.

Joe Johnson went 4-for-4, doubled twice and drove in a run for Argyle.

Dodgeville 5, Monroe 0
Kurt Riha hit a two-run triple to highlight a three-run third inning as Dodgeville shutout host Monroe.

Curt Weier pitched a complete-game shutout for Dodgeville. Weier scattered six hits and struck out 15.

Ridgeway 10, Richland Center 0
Miles Rolli homered and Dusty Alfred struck out 10 in seven innings to help host Ridgeway crush Richland Center.

Hollandale 3, New Glarus 0
Scott Norton collected two hits, including a two-run double in the eighth, as host Hollandale beat New Glarus.

Todd Paradis, Norton and Kurt Ritschard all combined to one-hit New Glarus.

SOUTHEAST SECTION
Utica 4, Albion 0
Scott Hestnes and Matt Ellingson combined on a five-hit shutout, and host Utica used a three-run seventh en route to a win over Albion.

Lucas Martin, Andy Martin and Tim Knapp each drove in runs for Utica.

Stoughton 9, Orfordville 2
Ryan Von Haden two-run single highlighted a six-run fourth, and Stoughton banged out 11 hits in a rout of host Orfordville.

Von Haden also pitched six shutout innings to get the win. He allowed just one hit, walked none and struck out three.

Lake Mills 6, Fort Atkinson 1
P.J. Stilling belted a pair of three-run homers in the first two innings, and Erich Wollin struck out six in a complete game as host Lake Mills beat Fort Atkinson.

Stilling connected in the first to give Lake Mills a 3-0 lead, then did it again in the second to make it 6-0.

Rick Klotz lasted just 3 1⁄3 innings for Fort Atkinson.

Whitewater 6, Cambridge 5
Kale Trewyn singled in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth as host Whitewater rallied from a five-run deficit to beat Cambridge.

Andy Hummel led off the ninth for Whitewater and reached after Cambridge pitcher Adrian Flores threw wildly to first on a comebacker.

Hummel made it all the way to third before Trewyn drove him in.

Jefferson 6, Deerfield 0
Ryan Wagner struck out 12 in a one-hitter to help Jefferson cruise past host Deerfield.

Wagner also helped his own cause by doubling in a run in the third.

EASTERN SECTION
Sun Prairie 17, Columbus 2
Pedro Lopez had two hits and two RBIs, Jake Brown had two hits and three RBIs and Aaron Gross allowed two runs in six innings as host Sun Prairie clobbered Columbus.

Columbus has allowed 30 runs in its first two games this season, both losses.

DeForest 3, McFarland 1
Kyle Drouin worked six strong innings, and Chad Barman delivered a pinch-hit, two-run single as host DeForest edged McFarland.

Drouin carried a no-hit bid into the sixth before McFarland's Darrell Krenz singled.

Marshall 11, Cottage Grove 7
Brandon Witkowski's two-run double in the eighth gave Marshall an 8-7 lead, and it tacked on three more runs to fend off host Cottage Grove.

Derek Daggett hit a three-run double to give Cottage Grove a 6-1 lead after four innings. But Marshall scored eight times in the final two innings to pull out the victory.

Monona 12, Rio 1
Alex Bauer had five hits, including a two-run homer, as defending HTL champion Monona jumped out to an 11-0 lead after three innings and routed host Rio.

Shawn Burcum added a three-run homer for Monona, which got five solid innings from Zac Najacht.

Poynette 3, Waterloo 1
Derek Jackson hit a two-run single in the second, and Drew and Kory Ryan combined on a four-hitter in Poynette's win over host Waterloo.

Tyler Sellnow homered in the seventh for Waterloo's lone run.

NORTHERN SECTION
Reedsburg 2, Pine Bluff 1
Jeremy Horkan struck out five and allowed just one run in a complete game, and Travis Van Zile broke a 1-1 tie in the seventh with a home run as host Reedsburg pushed past Pine Bluff.

Black Earth 14, Plain 1
Michael Brunner homered and drove in five runs to lead Black Earth past host Plain.

Jeff Pacholke added four RBIs for Black Earth.

Sauk Prairie 6, Middleton 4
Brent Dederich's two-run single in the top of the ninth broke a tie, and reliever Trent Sorg stranded two runners in the bottom of the inning as Sauk Prairie slipped past host Middleton.

Cross Plains 10, Cazenovia 1
Shamus Terry had two hits and pitched six solid innings as Cross Plains hammered host Cazenovia.

Mazomanie 6, Ashton 4
Ted Severson hit a two-run single, and Trent Schneider added another one inning later as Mazomanie edged host Ashton.

Severson also pitched a complete game, striking out five.
