Southwick Associates, a group dedicated to helping the firearms and outdoor equipment industries, government officials, and conservation organizations track consumer activities and expenditure trends, compiled the results from 19,288 surveys among hunters and target shooters returned from HunterSurvey.com and TargetshootingSurvey.com last year.
In 2007, the most popular brands, by percentage of all purchases, included:
* Top rifle: Remington (14.1 percent).
* Top shotgun: Mossberg (27.5 percent).
* Top muzzleloader: Thompson Center (29.7 percent).
* Top handgun: Smith & Wesson (17.6 percent).
* Top scope for firearms: Bushnell (23.7 percent).
* Top rifle ammunition: Remington (32.7 percent).
* Top shotgun ammunition: Winchester (33 percent).
* Top handgun ammunition: Winchester (26.2 percent). * Top blackpowder: Pyrodex (40.3 percent).
* Top balls, bullets, or shot: Powerbelt (32.1 percent).
* Top bow: Matthews (16.7 percent).
* Top arrow: Easton (45.1 percent).
* Top fletching: Bohning (29.6 percent).
* Top broadhead: Muzzy (29.6 percent).
* Top archery targets: The Block (26.6 percent).
* Top decoy: Flambeau (23.4 percent).
* Top game call: Knight & Hale (18.3 percent).

The company also announced the brands and products 16,258 anglers surveyed at Anglersurvey.com say they preferred most in 2007.

* Top hardbait: Rapala (25.6 percent).
* Top softbait: Zoom (15.9 percent).
* Top spinnerbait: Strike King (21.3 percent).
* Top hook: Gamakatsu (30 percent).
* Top sinker: Bullet Weights (20.1 percent).
* Top fly line: Scientific Anglers (25.7 percent).
* Top fly: Orvis (12.6 percent).
* Top electronics: Lowrance (55.5 percent/radio or GPS and 35 percent/fish finder).
