GREEN BAY — The Green Bay Packers lost out Monday on two of the few players they've showed interest in thus far in free agency, but the club did keep one of its own when special teams standout and linebacker Tracy White agreed to terms on a two-year contract.

Financial terms were not available, and the Packers did not officially announce the agreement, but a league source confirmed that White received a $250,000 signing bonus as part of the $1.8 million deal.

"We're working on it. We don't have all the documents done yet, so we're not making any announcements yet," Packers general manager Ted Thompson, who was traveling Monday, said in a voicemail. "We're hoping to finish it up (soon)."

White finished second to Jason Hunter on the team in special teams tackles with 14 during the regular season and also recovered two fumbles, including one for a touchdown against Philadelphia in the Sept. 9 season opener. He had one assisted tackle while playing only a handful of snaps from scrimmage.

White visited the Denver Broncos and Pittsburgh Steelers during free agency, but the Broncos lost interest after they signed ex-Seattle linebacker Niko Koutouvides. White told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel the Steelers offered him more guaranteed money but he chose to return to Green Bay because it 's a better situation for him.

Meanwhile, the Packers watched Monday as defensive end Corey Smith re-signed with the Detroit Lions and wide receiver/returner Tab Perry left the Cincinnati Bengals to sign a one-year deal with the Miami Dolphins.

Smith, the first outside free agent the Packers brought in, signed a one-year deal, the Lions announced. After joining the Lions midway through the 2006 season, Smith played in all 16 games (two starts) last year and set career highs with 32 tackles (14 solo), 2.5 sacks and 20 special teams tackles. He entered the league in 2002 as an undrafted free agent and was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2004 NFL Europe allocation draft.

Perry came to terms with the Dolphins Sunday afternoon. He was initially a restricted free agent, but the Bengals opted not to tender him, making him free to sign with any team. Perry visited Miami before coming to Green Bay last week. Perry's agent, Peter Schaffer, told the Cincinnati Enquirer "a one-year deal in Miami is a better situation for Tab."

Perry, 26, played in four games the past two seasons because of a hip injury but entered the league as a sixth-round pick in 2005 out of UCLA. For his career, he has caught 10 passes for 109 yards but did return 64 kickoffs for 1,562 yards (24.4-yard average, with a long of 94 yards) as a rookie.

In the hunt?

The other three free agents the Packers are known to have brought in are St. Louis Rams linebacker Brandon Chillar, Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Quinn Gray and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Kris Wilson.

Chillar visited the Arizona Cardinals before visiting the Packers and told the Cardinals' team Web site his decision "comes down to financials. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me. I want to make the right decision."

Gray visited the Oakland Raiders Wednesday after visiting the Packers but left Oakland without a contract. While the Packers are looking for backup options behind new starter Aaron Rodgers, the Raiders are considering Gray to back up JaMarcus Russell.

Wilson visited the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Wednesday following his trip to Green Bay. Wilson, who can play tight end and fullback, entered the league as a second-round pick in 2004 out of Pittsburgh and started 12 games at H-back for the Chiefs last season.

Seattle also has shown interest in the 6-2, 251-pound Wilson, who has 42 catches for 345 yards (8.2 avg.) and four touchdowns in 46 career games.

Bubba finds a home

Ex-Packers tight end Bubba Franks, who was released by the Packers Feb. 19, agreed to terms Sunday on a one-year, $1.65 million contract with the New York Jets.

A three-time Pro Bowl selection, Franks missed eight games last season because of a knee injury suffered Oct. 14, and finished with career lows in receptions (18) and yards (132).

Walker cashes in

Former Packers cornerback Frank Walker, the team's lone outside free-agent signing last year, received a $1.25 million signing bonus as part of the two-year, $3.5 million contract he signed with the Baltimore Ravens Friday, the Carroll County (Md.) Times reported. The signing bonus alone is worth more than Walker made with the Packers last year.

Walker, who joined the Packers from the New York Giants a on one-year, $1.24 million contract last year, recorded 17 tackles and one pass breakup in 12 games in 2007 but was inactive for the Packers' NFC Championship Game against his former team. Ravens director of player personnel George Kokinis said the Ravens "need guys that can step up and fill roles on defense and special teams, so (Walker) can help us. I think he really has a knack for getting his hand on the ball, so we're excited to have him."
