Monroe's Tony Cates, whose senior season came to an end at the hands of Mike Hojnaciki and Tristian Toban in the WIAA Division 2 state semifinals, will have the New Berlin Eisenhower seniors on his side June 21 when they compete as teammates on the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association Division 2 South All-Star team.

Cates' coaches from Monroe — coach Pat Murphy and assistants Brian Bassett and Ken Gratz — will coach the Division 2 South All-Stars. The team, which also includes Richland Center's Bradie Ewing, will play the first of the four games at the University of Wisconsin Field House at 9 a.m.

Madison West's Corvonn Gaines (North) and Janesville Craig's Lucas Burns (South) were the only area players named to the Division 1 squads.

Southwest Wisconsin Activities League rivals Quentin Tranberg of Iowa-Grant, Ben Pickel of Cuba City, Jake Wiederholt of Fennimore and Mitchell Erickson of Darlington top the area Division 3 selections. They join Southern Trailways Player of the Year Luke Standiford of Pardeeville.

In Division 4, three area players of the year — Seneca's Bill Oppriecht (Ridge & Valley), Randolph's Bryan Johnson (Northern Trailways) and Black Hawk's Joey Hartwig (Eastern Six Rivers) lead the area selections.
