One of two men charged in connection with the September stabbing death of a Madison man outside a Downtown bar was convicted Wednesday of two felony charges.
Travis C. Knapp, 34, of Madison, pleaded no contest to charges of harboring a felon and felony bail jumping in the death of Juan J. Bernal, 22.
District Attorney Brian Blanchard agreed to recommend that Knapp serve no more than two years in prison or jail.
Justin R. Stout, 31, of Madison, who is charged with first-degree reckless homicide in Bernal's death, is scheduled to stand trial in March.
According to a criminal complaint, Stout stabbed Bernal twice in the heart outside the Plaza Tavern and Grill, 319 N. Henry St., around 11:30 p.m. Sept. 3. Bernal died the next morning.
Knapp told police he was with Stout at the bar and disposed of the knife Stout used to stab Bernal.
Knapp will be sentenced after a supplemental pre-sentencing investigation. A pre-sentence investigation was filed in Dane County Circuit Court in July in connection with another pending case, in which Knapp pleaded no contest to substantial battery for an incident in February.
