A Madison bikers club has planned a benefit for the family of a missing woman from Deerfield.
The C.C. (Capitol City) Riders will hold a benefit at their clubhouse Saturday night to help the family of 23-year-old Christine Walters pay a private investigator.
Walters disappeared in northern California in November after extending what began as a three-week vacation to Oregon in July.
“I just felt a calling to help,” said C.C. Riders member James “Mo” Becker, who has belonged to the club for 12 years and watched Walters grow up. Walters’ father, Dean, is a C.C. Riders member.
“It hurts me because it’s close to home. I get emotional even thinking about it,” Becker said. “I wanted to do whatever I could.”
Her mother, Anita, said this week there are no recent leads. “We have absolutely no new information,” she said.
The benefit will help the family pay Chris Cook, a private investigator based in Eureka, Calif., who said in January she was optimistic Walters might be found. Cook was out of the country this week and could not be reached for comment.
Friends at UW-Stevens Point, where Walters was a student, also have been raising money.
