Wisconsin State Journal

A Black River Falls man is facing numerous tentative charges, including drunken driving, after leading police on a chase Saturday in and out of Stoughton.

James A. Jones, 25, was seriously injured when the car he was driving crashed into another vehicle which then struck another. Jones’ car rolled several times before coming to rest in a ditch at Highway 51 and South Brooklyn Drive just north of Stoughton.

The Dane County Sheriff’s Office said Stoughton police attempted to stop a Dodge Neon just before 7 p.m. on Highway B at Country Club Road when the driver refused to stop. The pursuit was initially stopped, but about 10 minutes later the chase resumed near Highway 51 and Schneider Drive and reached speeds of 90 miles per hour.

Jones was alone in his car, but eight people in the two other vehicles involved in the wreck suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene.

Jones has been tentatively charged with causing injuring by drunken driving, knowingly fleeing an officer and recklessly endangering safety. Jones will also be issued numerous traffic citations, said Sgt. Charles Immel of the Dane County Sheriff’s Office.
