Madison police arrested a 27-year-old man Sunday they believe was involved in a fatal hit-and-run collision Saturday night on the Southwest Side.

Robert E. Jones, of Fitchburg, was arrested on a tentative charge of failure to render aid after he allegedly hit Larry D. Caraway, 19, of Madison, in the 4900 block of Verona Road. Caraway was pronounced dead at the scene.

Fitchburg police received a tip Sunday that a damaged 1995 Mercury Marquis was parked at the Chalet Gardens apartments a short distance from the collision scene.

Jones was wanted on warrants for a hit-and-run and operating after revocation in April.
