Man faces attempted murder charge after three Madison shootings
By ED TRELEVEN

An attempted murder charge was among several felonies filed Tuesday against a man police believe was involved in three shooting incidents this year around Madison.

Steven L. Triplett, 21, was charged in two criminal complaints with attempted first-degree intentional homicide, first-degree reckless injury, two counts of first-degree reckless endangerment and three counts of possession of a firearm by someone adjudged delinquent.

Triplett appeared in court Tuesday and was jailed on $70,000 bail.

The attempted murder charge stems from an incident on April 23 when Triplett allegedly fired shots at a car in the 1800 block of South Park Street. The driver of the car, Riccardo Simms, 21, was shot twice in his upper right arm and once in his head, but he drove himself to a hospital.

Other witnesses also said they saw Triplett shoot at Simms’ car.

The next day, the complaint states, a witness said Triplett was sitting in a car in the 1400 block of Loreen Drive when a white van drove past and someone fired shots at him. Triplett got out, the witness said, and chased after the van while firing an automatic weapon, possibly a TEC-9 automatic pistol. One shot went through the kitchen wall of a nearby home.

The second complaint alleges that on June 21, Keandrew Thomas, 19, was stopped at a stop sign at Hammersley Road and Theresa Terrace when Triplett came up on foot and fired several shots at him.

Triplett will return to court on July 7 for a preliminary hearing.
