Dane County will receive about $3.6 million in federal stimulus money for two road projects.
The Federal Reinvestment and Recovery Act is funding a $3 million replacement of University Avenue between Segoe Road and Shorewood Boulevard and providing $600,000 for repaving and improving Highway K between highways M and Q in the town of Westport, both being upgraded in 2010.
"By aggressively pursuing every pot of stimulus money we can, we’re improving vital infrastructure and helping to put people to work," County Executive Kathleen Falk said. "These projects will make it safer and easier for people to get around Dane County."
Another $1.7 million in stimulus money will fund bridge improvements to begin this month on Highway B in Rockdale and Highway N in Dunkirk.
Dane County’s Human Services Department also received $130,000 to create 10 new AmeriCorps positions to assist with tutoring and after-school programs in middle and high schools throughout the county, in such communities as Madison, Sun Prairie, Verona and Oregon.
The department also received more than $68,000 for senior nutrition/home meal delivery programs.
