A Madison man was arrested Wednesday blocks from a Downtown apartment from which he allegedly had trouble finding his way out.
Van Hendricks, 45, was tentatively charged with burglary after police caught him with the resident’s wallet a couple blocks from the apartment in the 400 block of West Johnson Street, Lt. David McCaw said.
Police said Hendricks entered the apartment through an unlocked window around 8 p.m. The apartment’s resident, who was sleeping, awoke to find him and called police. Hendricks reportedly tried to flee, but initially couldn’t find the door.
The extra time allowed the victim to provide police with enough of a description of Hendricks for them to find him a short time later.
McCaw said Hendricks’ high level of intoxication probably played a role in his difficulty finding the door to the apartment.
