Rusty Meyer allowed five hits and walked three to lead Plain to a 4-3 upset over West Division-leading host Reedsburg in a Northern Section Home Talent League amateur baseball game Saturday afternoon.
Plain grabbed a 4-1 lead, scoring twice in the first inning on a two-run double by Simon Liegel, once in the second on an RBI single by Ed Liegel and once in the third thanks to a Reedsburg error.
Chris Rosholt’s solo homer in the eight pulled Reedsburg to within 4-3, but Meyer escaped with the win in the ninth when a runner was cut down trying to steal.
Ashton 4, Middleton 2: Jason Ballweg and Kevin Brink delivered run-scoring, bases-loaded singles to snap a 2-2 tie in the sixth as host Ashton upset Middleton.
Matt Brabender singled in a run in the third to stake Middleton, which fell out of a first-place tie with Cross Plains in the East Division, to a 1-0 lead before Jeff Schafer added to it with a solo homer in the fourth.
After a run scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the fifth, Ben Hagstrom tied the score for Ashton with a solo home run.
Eric Duhr and Craig Meier combined on a seven-hitter to lead Ashton.
Cazenovia 10, Richland Center 0 (7): Jake Overline allowed three hits in seven innings and his brother, Sam Overline, hit a double and a home run to lead Cazenovia over host Richland Center in seven innings.
Cole Duren added two hits and three RBIs for Cazenovia.
Cross Plains 5, Black Earth 4: Stacy Bruner’s fifth-inning triple scored Tyler Fuhrman and Jared Haack and Kody Simon blanked Black Earth the rest of the way to lead host Cross Plains.
Casey Parent, who also knocked in a run during Black Earth’s two-run first, drove in a pair with a double to tie the score at 4 in the fifth.
Fuhrman drove in Cross Plains’ first-inning run, Shamus Terry and Kenny Allen drove in runs to put Cross Plains up 3-2 in the second and Simon’s groundout in the third made the score 4-2.
Sauk Prairie 6, Mazomanie 3: Steve Pacholke’s two-run single highlighted a three-run third as Sauk Prairie downed host Mazomanie.
Waunakee 11, Pine Bluff 5: RBI singles by Joel Acker and Matt Ripp were the only hits in an eight-run seventh, which included six walks and three batters hit by pitch, as Waunakee rallied to beat Pine Bluff.
Waunakee needed just six hits in all, as Pine Bluff pitchers issued 12 walks and hit six batters.
Cole Payne’s fourth-inning solo home run sparked Pine Bluff, which led 5-3 heading to the bottom of the seventh.
EASTERN SECTION
Monona 7, Poynette 4: Elliot Brakmanis delivered a three-run homer in a four-run fifth as section-leading host Monona beat Poynette.
Tim McGowan knocked in two runs for Poynette.
Sun Prairie 13, Rio 3 (7): Andy Minga and Travis Rupert each hit two-run homers and Sun Prairie blew the game open with six runs in the seventh to beat Rio.
Tony Tuschen and Trevin Kreier each knocked in two runs in the seventh.
Waterloo 2, Marshall 0: Jake Reible’s two-out, two-run single in the sixth staked Jeff Schroud to all the offense he would need as host Waterloo edged Marshall.
Schroud allowed three hits and walked four in a complete-game effort. He outdueled Kyle Virchow, who allowed the two runs on three hits and four walks in six innings. He walked the bases loaded in the sixth before Reible provided the difference.
McFarland 9, DeForest 5: Joey Nartowicz knocked in two runs in the third and two more in the fourth to lead host McFarland over DeForest.
McFarland did all its damage with four runs in the third and five in the fourth. DeForest pitchers walked 10 and hit two batters.
Cottage Grove 8, Columbus 0: Jay Stassi’s two-run single highlighted a three-run fourth as Cottage Grove blanked host Columbus for the second time in two weeks.
Nic Haley, getting relief help, got the win for Cottage Grove.
SOUTHEAST SECTION
Albion 4, Orfordville 1: Jim Eastman’s two-out, two-run single in the sixth snapped a 1-1 tie to lead host Albion past Orfordville.
The victory was the sixth straight for Albion, which has surged into first place in the West Division.
Mike Nanstad struck out 12 and didn’t walk a batter to earn the complete game victory. He allowed eight hits and one unearned run.
Fort Atkinson 5,
Whitewater 4: Tom Dehnert’s two-run homer in the sixth delivered the winning runs as host Fort Atkinson edged Whitewater.
Dehnert also drove in a run with a double.Tim Brokl singled three times and scored twice for Fort Atkinson, which leads the East Division.
Rory Kolo had three doubles and drove in all four of Whitewater’s runs.
Cambridge 11,
Deerfield 5: Adrian Flores and Toby Probst each knocked in two runs as host Cambridge dropped Deerfield in Utica.
WESTERN SECTION
Ridgeway 5, Hollandale 4: After Hollandale’s Kyle Thompson singled in the tying run in the top of the ninth, Adam Halverson was hit by a pitch to drive in the winner for host Ridgeway in the bottom of the inning.
Ridgeway’s Dusty Alfred managed to post the complete-game victory despite allowing 15 hits and walking five.
Ridgeway jumped out to a 4-0 lead against Hollandale in the first thanks to a three-run home run from Ray Hubbard and a run-scoring single by Kevin Oimoen.
Brandon Ihm’s second-inning RBI double got section-leading Hollandale on the board before Quin Schultz hit a solo homer in the third and William Schlimgen singled in another.
Argyle 2, Blanchardville 1: Ben Wallace scored two runs for Argyle and held host Blanchardville to two hits, striking out 16 and walking one.
Travis Erickson knocked in Wallace with a second-inning single and Jarret Bauman drove in Wallace with the eventual winning run with a double in the fourth.
Blanchardville managed its two hits in fourth.
Blanchardville kept the game close, turning a triple play in the sixth. The play started with a 4-6-3 double play (second-to-short-to first base) before Wallace was nailed at the plate,
Verona 8, Dodgeville 4: Derek Burgenske and Trevor Burmeister each drove in two runs to lead host Verona over Dodgeville.
Verona took charge with a four-run first, which included RBIs from Justin Scanlon, Derek Prochaska, Burmeister and Nick Krohn. Zach Spencer went eight innings for the victory.
Wiota 7, Monroe 5: Merril Brunson’s two-run homer highlighted a four-run eighth as Wiota upset host Monroe.
Brock Bidlingmaier got the complete game win for Wiota.
New Glarus 9, Platteville 6: Michael Rear drove in three runs to lead New Glarus over host Platteville.
New Glarus trailed 4-2 after three innings, but took control with a five-run fourth. Vance Vlasak scattered seven hits for the win, while Jake Green and Travis Knautz each had two RBIs for Platteville.
