Highly-regarded German tennis prospect Patrick Pohlmann has signed a national letter of intent and will join the University of Wisconsin men's tennis team for the 2008-09 season.

Pohlmann signed his letter of intent during the spring signing period, choosing UW over such other top programs as UCLA, Auburn and Tennessee.

"We couldn't be more excited about Patrick's choice to become a Badger," UW coach Greg Van Emburgh said. "He has limitless potential, is an incredibly hard worker, and deeply wants to be on an NCAA championship team at Wisconsin."

A native of Cologne, Germany, Pohlmann is ranked in the top 120 in the German men's rankings.
