A suspected drunken driver was charged with sexual assault after allegedly fondling a female police officer who was preparing an alcohol breath test for him at a Madison police station.

John G. Gillich, 57, of Madison, was seated without handcuffs on a bench at the North Police District, 2033 Londonderry Drive, early Saturday when he allegedly lunged toward the officer and grabbed her buttocks, according to a criminal complaint filed Monday.

Gillich was charged with fourth-degree sexual assault.

Gillich was released on a signature bond after appearing in court Monday.
