University of Wisconsin-Madison student football tickets sell out in fastest sale in memory
Football season tickets for University of Wisconsin-Madison undergraduates sold out in 2 hours and 35 minutes, the fastest sale in memory, said spokesman Vince Sweeney.
Traffic was so heavy on UWBadgers.com this morning that some students who tried to log on to buy tickets may have been put into a “waiting room” while they tried to access the site. The sale began at 8:30 a.m.
“What that meant was it wasn’t as timely as we would have liked,” Sweeney said.
Although he said it was likely frustrating to some students, he said “people were getting through.”
UW-Madison’s ticketing partner and software provider, Ticketmaster Irvine, was apparently using servers comparable to those used for recent Miley Cyrus or Paul McCartney concerts.
“They were ready for some pretty high demand,” Sweeney said.
The tickets are first-come, first-served. Men’s season hockey tickets remain available to full-time undergraduates at UWBadgers.com.
Full-time graduate and professional students can begin purchasing football and men’s hockey season tickets on Monday, July 6, beginning at 8:30 a.m. About 1,700 seats are reserved for them.
About 11,500 undergraduate tickets were sold.
