Obama praises Cieslewicz
Wisconsin State Journal

Madison Mayor Dave Cieslewicz drew a shout-out from President Barack Obama while attending a speech the president delivered to non-profit group leaders Tuesday afternoon in the East Room of the White House.

"I also want to thank Dave Cieslewicz — I want to make sure I say that properly — of Madison, Wisconsin, and Mayor Sara Presler of Flagstaff, Arizona, for their commitment as well. Please give them a big round of applause," Obama said, according to Politico.

Cieslewicz said he was invited to attend the speech by David Agnew, White House deputy director of intergovernmental affairs, for his work in helping to found the Mayors Innovation Project, which brings mayors together to discuss progressive solutions for cities.

In the speech Obama announced a $50 million innovation fund as part of the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act to find and fund the "most promising non-profits in America," to be headed up by Domestic Policy Council director Melody Barnes.

Cieslewicz said he had invited Barnes’ staff to Madison "to see what we’ve got." The mayor is encouraging Madison non-profits to e-mail his office with ideas for programs that could work on the national stage.

Before leaving, Cieslewicz said he introduced himself to Obama. "Say hello to my crew in Madison," Obama reportedly responded.
