Politics blog: Recession taking a bite out of politicians' fundraising?
Even politicians aren't immune from the national recession. New figures from the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign show that campaign fundraising by Wisconsin lawmakers is at its lowest level in a decade.
For the first six months of 2009, lawmakers and their campaign committees raised $922,000, down 40 percent from the $1.5 million raised during the first half 2007, the most recent comparable budget year. That's the lowest level since the first half of 1999, when $875,000 was raised.
The Democracy Campaign said an Assembly ban on fundraising during the budget also likely played a role in lowering the fundraising.
