People gather for a celebration of veterans this week at Madison Area Technical College, which is creating a veterans service office on campus. The office, which began welcoming people on Thursday, is a reflection of the doubling in the number of students who are veterans in recent years. That number will only increase as soldiers return early next year from the largest operational deployment of Wisconsin National Guard personnel since World War II. Wisconsin National Guard Sgt. Michael Lubinski arrived home in Green Bay just in time for the birth of his second son, Nathan. Lubinski is on a two-week leave from his duties at Camp Taji in Iraq. Youngsters from the MATC Child and Family Center attend a ceremony celebrating veterans Thursday at the technical college's Truax Campus. Retired Marine Bob Lyod of Stoughton listens as Mark E. Anderson, Wisconsin assistant adjutant general, speaks during a celebration of veterans Thursday at the MATC Truax Campus.
