But just outside the village, three dozen residents were evacuated from the "Prairie Subdivision," where several homes will likely be declared total losses and others are so damaged it will be weeks before electricity can be restored and residents can move back, village president Greg Prem said. The village of Lavalle had its entire downtown submerged in several feet of water Monday, forcing the evacuation of many homes as well as the LaValle Fire Department building. LaValle resident Jessica Horkan paddles through the village's downtown Monday.
